Bloomin Fried Chicken Sandwich Outback

Bloomin Fried Chicken Sandwich Outback

If you are familiar with the famous bloomin onion from Outback, then you must have an idea of what their new recipe for bloomin fried chicken sandwiches looks like.  The two dishes are prepared using the same breading, thus the similarity in their naming.

Bloomin fried chicken from Outback is prepared using a breading mixture of cornstarch, all-purpose flour and cornstarch and dipped in a mix of buttermilk and egg before frying.  To make a sandwich, you just have to add the bloomin chicken between two pieces of bread or a cut bun along with vegetables and other fillings of your choice.  If you desire to have this dish at home, follow our copycat recipe from Outback below.

Ingredients

  1. Boneless and skinless chicken: The restaurant uses chicken breast, but you can use thighs if it’s your preference.  You’ll need to slice them to pieces and pound them to make them thin and battered.  You may need to cook longer if using cooking thighs.
  2. All-purpose flour, cornstarch and baking soda:  A mixture of these three gives a lovely light and crispy coating that blends well with the buttermilk to give a delicious taste.  Avoid adding too much baking soda as it gives an unpleasant excessive salt flavor.
  3. Egg and buttermilk give the dry coating something to stick to for crunchy fried chicken.
  4. Cayenne, black pepper, paprika, thyme, seasoned salt, oregano, and cumin: these seasonings change the fried chicken from a common one to a bloomin.  The seasonings can either be added to the sauce or the chicken.
  5. Break or bums: for the sandwich
  6. Tomatoes, lettuce and other sandwich fillings you like.
